How to care for your hair extensions.
- Following these aftercare tips will prolong the life of your hair extensions.
- Cranking up the heat on your hair straighteners or curling tongs can lead to discolouring and leave your hair extensions brittle.
- Always, always use a heat protector on your hair extensions. I cannot stress this enough. it will make or break their longevity and tone of your hair extensions. This is also important for your natural hair as well, especially if your hair is coloured.
- Avoid your hair extensions being in chlorine. Chlorine can alter the tone and will change the condition of your hair extensions.
- If you intend to swim tie your hair up and avoid getting it wet. Alternativly take a spray bottle of fresh water with you and spray your hair first. Your hair will soak up the freshwater and less of the salt or chlorinated water.
- Use a clarifying shampoo! Have this on hand. washing your hair in hard water can discolour your hair.
- Use moiturising products to replenish that moisture that has been lost to the salt water.
- Avoid your hair extensions coming into contact with suncream- especially blondes. Why? Essentially suncream will change the colour turning them pink or orange. This is due to a chemical reaction.
- The two ingredients in suncream to look out for are: AVEBENZONE (BUTYL METHOXYDIBENZOYLMETHANE) which is an oil soluble ingredient used in suncream products to absorb the full spectrum of UVA rays.
- OXTOCRYLENE, which is added as a stabiliser as the Avebenzone degrades in light. Together they are found in differing quantities in sun protection.
- We all know how important it is to protect our skin from the sun so don't go without using it for the sake of your hair extensions , try a "mineral" sunscreen instead, as this does not contain the above ingredients.
- Coat the ends of your hair in conditioner to avoid absorption of other chemicals.
- Malibu C Hard Water Wellness Remedy helps eliminate brassiness, discolouration and damage caused by mineral absoption.
- To help prevent damage Moisturise your hair extensions regulary.
